Woman is Rescued From Chicago River
Chicago Tribune, May 13, 1997
A 53-year-old Chicago woman who apparently jumped into the Chicago River Monday morning was rescued by a Chicago Fire Department captain.
The woman was in critical but stable condition at Northwestern Memorial
Hospital. The woman jumped off a bridge into the river near Dearborn Street
and Wacker Drive at 9:13 a.m. A bicycle messenger saw the woman leap and
attempted to save her, said Max Walchuk, fire departmentt spokesman. Robert
Huggins, with Chicago Messenger Service, abandoned the attempt because
of the cold water. Fire Capt. Richard Dory then jumped in the water and
rescued the woman.
