A 64-year-old Manhattan woman was critically injured yesterday when she was struck by a bicycle messenger in the middle of the block on a busy Manhattan thoroughfare, police said.

The victim, Harrietta Peterka, was listed in extremely critical condition last night at Bellevue Hospital, said Det. Joseph Pentangelo, a police spokesman.

Pentangelo said the messenger, Suna Hollan, 35, of South Fourth Street, in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest. He said she was charged after she refused to cooperate with police officers investigating the accident and gave them a false identification. The charges were not related to Hollan's operation of the bicycle, Pentangelo said.

The accident occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Madison Avenue between 30th and 31st Streets. Pentangelo said witnesses gave conflicting accounts of the accident - some said Peterka was struck after stepping out of a cab while others said she was walking across the street. He said the bike messenger was traveling north on Madison Avenue when she collided with with Peterka.
