Mercury Rising #6, April 1992

S.F.B.M.A.:

Howdy, would it be possible to send me a copy of ’mercury rising’? Living in San Francisco i would see you guys everywhere and long suspected that some of you had to be anarchists.

One day, i remember, i was stuck in traffic feeling pretty depressed over living in this post- industrial technological shithole of a society. i would glance at the faces of my fellow commuters, trapped and isolated in their cages of steel, their faces carrying the blank lifeless expressions of one living in the throes of survival sickness.

i looked over and saw a bike messenger stranded behind a transit bus, the toxic fumes belching in his face. i immediately thought "look at that poor bastard" but something caught my attention in his sweaty fatigued face his eyes, there was something wild and crazy in those eyes like a cunning animal seeking out his prey. i could feel the tension the pent-up energy of this figure sitting on this bike. Something was about to happen and i held my breath.

Suddenly this static dreary urban scene exploded as this guy, disregarding all urban protocol, leaped from his position and per formed an amazing acrobatic ballet on his bike through the stalled downtown traffic. it left me so startled that i erupted in peals of hysterical laughter.

It was at this moment that i knew -i knew how the dinosaurs felt, the Lords of creation who ruled the planet in terror for millions of years. when they stood helpless watching the small scurrying mammals making off with one of their eggs.

I wish you all a lot of success with your labor organization. it’s about time for you to show solidarity with one another against the exploitive practices of the companies you work for. If you needs some bucks for mercury rising’ let me know. Take care.
